FAQs
Your questions answered.
Welcome to Facts & Questions!
The process of therapy holds a lot of uncertainty, and I am here to support you every step of the way.
How do I get started?
I make booking therapy simple. Click here to get started by booking your free consultation.
The step after that is for you to book your first therapy appointment- and voila, you are now a client!
If Consilience Counselling does not seem to be the right fit I am more than happy to offer you other referral sources.
How does the introductory telephone consultation work?
I will call you or we video chat to discuss your goals and how Consilience might help. All questions are welcome. Our conversation at this point is to ensure I really understand what you want and expect from therapy and for you to decide if I seem like a good fit.
Who do you work with?
I aim to be inclusive of all. Everyone is invited and welcomed at Consilience Counselling. Adults, couples, teens and children. Click here for a description of services.
What is the cost of therapy?
60 minute sessions start at $215. Click here for my booking site to see the prices for the differing sessions.
Will my health insurance cover your services?
Not all insurance agencies cover all providers. I am licensed as a Canadian Counsellor and as a Registered Nurse. Please inquire with your insurance broker to ensure your benefits cover my services.
I am licensed and registered with: CRNA #67466, ACCT #3160, ACTA #2623 and I am a CCPA member #10008883.
What if I miss an appointment?
Cancellations or changes to appointment times are okay up to 36 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. A cancellation fee of 70% of the session cost will be charged for late cancellations and missed appointments.
What do I do if I am experiencing a crisis and need immediate help?
I love to hear from you but I am unable to offer immediate or emergency mental health crisis care. Please access available community supports outside of our appointment times and let me know that you needed to so that I can follow up.
How often will we meet?
I typically see individual clients once per week for 3-6 months. Seeing each other weekly allows for the work to move along at a good pace. Like a work-out routine it requires a commitment to consistency to make transformative gains.
Clients often move to bi-weekly appointments once they have traction on their goals. Therapy then becomes less frequent, such as once a month, when what is learned in therapy get easier and easier to apply outside of session and the gains made in your well-being are maintained.
Does what we talk about remain confidential?
Yes, by law I do not release information about you to any other party (such as your physician) without your written consent for disclosure.
NB- Consent and confidentiality is slightly different for children & adolescents, we will address this during your free consultation.
There are three exceptions to this practice:
I may disclose information without your consent when:
You give me information that reasonably suggests imminent and serious harm to you or another person.
A disclosure is made of a minor, vulnerable person, or elder currently being harmed or neglected. We will involve the most appropriate services to keep everyone safe.
If, in the rare case, a court of law issues a subpoena for your therapy record during legal proceedings that involve you, they may request my notes.
Not everyone can afford private therapy options, please know there are payment free mental health services available to you through the Alberta government. Call Access Mental Health at 1-844-943-1500 and they will guide you from there.
